The brakes didn’t work. I wasn’t touching the accelerator either, but still, my Volvo picked up speed down the steep hill at rush hour towards the first pedestrian crossing at the roundabout.
Now 60mph, split-second decision: if I take to the first exit towards the next zebra crossing, all the kids use this, I’ll kill them. No choice. Crossing behind the 16-wheeler lorry, the driver making a perfect circle with his mouth wide-eyed, no time to swear at me. Going too fast.
Straight into the car park of the local theatre. Another split-second decision; strange how it’s so vivid; despite taking only seconds to unravel, it’s not unlike a slow-mo disaster movie. It felt like minutes. No!
Not into the glass doors of the theatre, who would I maim inside? The man by the ticket machine moved away towards his car. No choice. I rammed my car into three parked cars and hit the wall. Not a dent in my hard-core Volvo, just the airbags hissing quietly. Goodness, those things smell. The three other cars were not so lucky.
“You took a ton of force in both your hands and arms’, said the policeman who breathalysed me at 8.30 am gleefully before the paramedics carted me off.
Surgery on one hand and plaster on both and sent away, ‘about six months, I think ‘when I asked for a healing time frame. Significantly damaged arms and hands do not look good for a reflexologist with a successful business working with children with complex needs and disabilities.
At least I had time on my hands and arms. What to do?
Only weeks before the accident, I had called my Spiritual Mentor. I’d asked, “I keep finding reasons not to leave my current practice, but it doesn’t feel right to stay. I feel uncomfortable; my intuition is grabbing me by both hands, pulling me away. I’m worried people will think I’m mad if I quit to become a full-time Celtic Shamanic Mentor to Western Women. It’s just not the right time.”
“Well, when would be the right time then?” she replied, “I’m sure the Universe has the plan to show you the way, whatever vehicle you choose, to use your Spiritual gifts and connection to nature, in teaching, in person or by writing”.
I ignored my strong internal messages and my Mentor’s hint, so I received a fast and furious Universal lesson.
It woke me up.
So I typed with two fingers. I learnt how to use Twitter and Facebook. Wrote my course with ease. I wasn’t going to put off my happy life any more.
It’s a reminder, first of all, to pay attention and to listen to your heart and gut instinct. Be courageous and take action even when it seems counterintuitive to everyone else but you. Your gut is the more intelligent brain.
It doesn’t pray to the Great Goddess Waddle. What’ll I do if people laugh at me? What’ll I do If I fail? What’ll I do if …I succeed?
The most significant shift for me was in living my life purpose. So when you hear the guiding whispers of intuition, listen. Take action. However crazy they sound. That’s when the magic happens.
